Prohibited and restricted activities on Red Hill
The ACT Parks and Conservation Service has recently installed new ‘activity declaration’ signs at some of the entries to the Red Hill Reserve. The signs are a requirement of the ACT Nature Conservation Act 2014 to clearly state prohibited and restricted activities in ACT reserves. The signage currently installed is temporary until more formal permanent signs are prepared by PCS in collaboration with the Environment and Planning Directorate (EPD) that complement existing signage standards within reserves.

The Nature Conservation Act 1980 is the chief legislation for the protection of native plants and animals in the ACT and for the management of the conservation reserve network.
The Act protects native plants and animals, and provides management authority for conservation lands. It provides the legal underpinning of nature conservation policy, management and action across the Territory.
A review of the Act is being undertaken by the Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water on behalf of the ACT Government.
A Discussion Paper on the review of the Act seeks input from the ACT and wider community into the review of the Nature Conservation Act 1980. It is intended to help individuals and organisations prepare submissions to the review. It is not intended to limit comment. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to provide information and comment on any issues that they consider relevant, in addition to the issues identified in this discussion paper. A copy of the Nature Conservation Act 1980 is available here.
The first step of the Nature Conservation Act 1980 review was the appointment of Marsden and Jacob Associates (MJA) to provide advice on the form, scope, function, policy, principles and objectives of contemporary best practice nature conservation legislation.
