Red Hill work activity Sunday 11 April 2021 from 9am

You are invited to join us on Sunday 11 April at 09.00am for our next monthly activity on Red Hill for 2021.   On Sunday, we plan to continue our work from last month to deal with mainly verbascum, by either beheading/dabbing the flower spikes, chipping small plants and dabbing others.

Location: Park at the top of Brereton Street, Garran by 9am.  The park gate will be unlocked at 9am for those who want to drive in convoy into the reserve to the activity site which will be located on the ridge close to the north side of the Davidsons Trig.  The gate will be locked until we leave at 12.30pm. Meet on the Red Hill ridge track about 100m north from Davidsons Trig.


  1. Cut, dab and chip verbascum

Conditions: open to dense bush, gentle to steep slopes, rocky in parts. Extensive coverage by saffron thistles.

You bring: Water to drink, hat, gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea. Also bring hand sanitiser, your own pen for signing the book and your own tools if possible. If you can, bring a couple of large stout bin bags to contain verbascum seed heads. (See Covid 19 Advice below)

We bring: Extra leather gloves, herbicide dabbers and spray packs, some hand sanitiser, disinfected tools, and instructions. (See Covid 19 Advice below)

NoteIt is important that you attend the Covid safety and activity briefing at 0915 at the activity site.    A byo morning tea is usually held at 11am, with an opportunity to discuss matters of relevance to the Group. Such discussions constitute ‘General Meetings’ as defined by the Rules of our organisation and may be minuted.


Covid 19 Advice

1.  Practice 1.5m social distancing at all times. Do not share tools;

2. All shared tools will be disinfected before and after use. If you have your own tools and a pen to sign the book please bring them;

3. Hand sanitiser will be available. Hands should be sanitised at the group meeting place, before and after putting on shared gloves or using shared tools. If you have your own gloves and /or hand sanitiser please bring them; 4. Please do not sign the attendance book or handle shared equipment without first sanitising your hands;

5. If you feel unwell please stay at home.


Cancellation: The activity will be cancelled by email (if possible) if rain/wind is forecast which could make planned work potentially hazardous, high temperatures before midday are forecast, total fire bans are announced, air pollution is ‘hazardous’ or Covid 19 restrictions in force.
