ACT Govt registers trees adjacent to Red Hill Reserve, recommends expanding the Reserve

The Conservator of Flora and Fauna on 25 November 2024 decided to register under the Urban Forest Act 2023  trees in Bl3 of s57 and Bl 1 of s58, Hughes on the basis that there is convincing evidence that they provide ‘important and irreplaceable’ habitat for threatened bird species, and that all remnant Blakely’s Red Gum and Yellow Box trees meet registration criteria.

The determination is supported by an independent ‘Ecological Values and Constraints Assessment‘ of the two block.

The location of the blocks is shown below. The Conservator also asked the Parks & Conservation Service to explore the benefit of incorporating all or part of Bl3 s57, Hughes into the Red Hill Nature Reserve.
