Butterfly walk on Red Hill: Saturday 28 November 2016

The Regenerators Group members and friends are invited to join butterfly expert Dr Suzi Bond for a short walk on Red Hill to identify butterflies and their habitats. Dr Suzi Bond is an ecologist working on biodiversity accounting at the ABS Centre for Environment Statistics, and is a Visiting Fellow at the ANU Fenner School of Environment and Society. Dr Bond is currently working on a project on the butterflies of the ACT.

While we tend to focus on other aspects of the ecology of Red Hill, this will be an excellent opportunity to find out more about the butterfly population on the Hill.

What: Butterfly identification walk on Red Hill
When: Saturday 28 November 2015, from 10.30am for about an hour
Where: Meet at the restaurant car park
Bring: Long sleeved shirt and pants, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen and water. Binoculars and camera.
More Information: “The Complete Field Guide to Butterflies of Australia” by M F Braby
Dr Bond can also coordinate backyard surveys of butterflies for anyone interested in maintaining records of what species they get visiting their garden – do you want to join this? If so she can email you the chart to fill in as the season progresses, and also usually sends occasional update emails to let everyone know what species are flying in suburbia, what species we are getting in our surveys further afield in Namadgi etc.
