Red Hill Nature Reserve
Meet near Red Hill Carpark: the large carpark off Mugga Way (near Francis Street)
This will be the last foray for the year, and we will start up again next year for autumn (for the peak fungi season). Those of you who took on the role of photographer at the last foray, don’t forget to send them to this email address.
You are welcome to attend and to bring any friends and family as these are free events open to the public. Forays will be cancelled if it rains – feel free to contact me or check our facebook site to confirm.
Our foray leader will tell you a bit about fungi as we go along finding fungi in the area. Together we will take photographs and notes of fungi we find. If we can identify them using the resources we have, we will submit records to Fungimap for inclusion in the National Australian Fungi Database and the Atlas of Living Australia. If we can’t easily identify them, we will consider doing more research or submitting them to the Canberra Nature Map for identification.
You don’t need to have any prior experience to join in. If you are interested in learning more, we recommend the following websites:
https://www.anbg.gov.au/fungi/ – Australian National Botanical Gardens Australian Fungi site explaining what fungi are.
https://fungimap.org.au – Fungimap is a national fungi organisation, which sets out how to provide them with records, and provides an online field guide to their target species
http://www.fncv.org.au/fungi-in-australia/ – Field Naturalist Club Victoria provides downloadable fungi identification e-books
http://canberra.naturemapr.org – Canberra Nature Map allows users to submit and look up photos of rare plant, animal and fungi sightings around the ACT
http://www.ala.org.au – Atlas of Living Australia
We look forward to seeing you at more forays next year!
