History of Red Hill: Lecture Tuesday 13 October 2015

A meeting of the Canberra & District Historical Society will be held at 5.30pm on Tuesday 13 October 2015 at the Australian National Archives, when Dr Michael Mulvaney will present a lecture titled “Red Hill’s unnatural history – How its human history is reflected in the natural features that it has and is missing”.

In preparing for this lecture Michael has undertaken extensive research among early European written records, and has unearthed much information about Red Hill which we have been unaware.
This lecture should provide a fascinating insight into this important part of our landscape.
For those who may be unable to attend he lecture, we plan to publish it in the coming weeks on our website.
About Dr Mulvaney: For the last 30 years Michael has spent at least a day a month  on park care activities aimed at regenerating the Hill’s woodland. He has an intimate knowledge of the Hill and its wildlife. Concerned about weed invasion on Red Hill, he completed a PhD on why certain garden plants become weeds and others don’t. His results and data contributed to the development of the Weed Risk Assessment utilised by Australia Quarantine. For the last thirty years Michael has been employed by the Commonwealth, NSW and now the ACT governments to provide information on how wildlife can best be protected within development and planning decisions.
