Planned ACT Government work on Red Hill

Work on Red Hill November 2014: Blue Gum removal
We have been advised that the Blue Gums growing around the reservoirs between Deakin and Hughes are to be removed by ACTEW.  A number of these large introduced trees have been removed in the past but they continue to spread into the surrounding bush.  They are nice looking trees but are not native to Red Hill (like the Cootamundra Wattles) and are a significant fire hazard. They have been recently thinned out along the drain in Yarralumla and also removed by the National Capital Authority on Stirling Ridge, Yarralumla. We have no problem in them being removed and have asked that the logs are placed strategically on the hill to help attract biodiversity. ACTEW has undertaken to stockpile the logs for future distribution on Red Hill.
