Red Hill Regenerators Work Activities on Tuesday 5 May and Tuesday 12 May from 8.45am to 12 noon

Come and help with the incorporation of an additional 10.5ha of woodland
into the Red Hill Nature Reserve.

In June 2023, the Red Hill Regenerators were successful in having a 10.5ha
area of land in the NW corner of the Federal Golf Club (FGC) lease area
rezoned for inclusion in the Reserve.  A PC-Nature Reserve overlay was put
on the area which means it must now be managed in a way that is consistent
with the land being part of the Reserve.  Prior to the area formally being
incorporated into the Reserve restoration work needs to be undertaken on
some degraded areas.

On Tuesday 5 May and Tuesday 12 May 2026 a joint exercise involving the Red
Hill Regenerators, the FGC and the Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) will
be undertaken.  This exercise will involve FGC course maintenance staff
cutting down large patches of woody weeds along with other large weeds.  RHR
volunteers will assist by poisoning the cut stems and putting the cut
material into piles.  Tools will be provided so that volunteers can also
remove weeds in the area if the opportunity arises.  PCS will provide a
truck and possibly a loader to remove the cut material.

Over a number of years, the Regenerators have spent many hours maintaining
the large swathes of high-quality woodland to be found in the 10.5ha in
preparation for the area being incorporated into the Reserve.  Subject to
further approvals the FGC will be funding large-scale restoration work in
the degraded areas.

This is an important joint initiative which will ultimately see the final
legal step being taken to incorporate the 10.5 ha woodland area into the
Reserve.

Please note these work activities will be undertaken in place of the
proposed 3 May and 20 May activities.
