Red Hill Work Activity on Wednesday 19 August 2026 from 9am to 12 noon.
The focus of this work activity will be controlling outbreaks of Vinca in the southern part of the Reserve near Hindmarsh Drive. Vinca is a serious environmental weed. It is a ground creeper that is capable of forming dense mats that exclude other plants and suppress tree and shrub regeneration. It is important that we rid this area of Vinca before it becomes a major problem. While working in this area we will also tackle woody weeds. The Vinca will be tackled with mattocks, and the woody weeds will be tackled with loppers and saws. Morning tea will be at 10.30am.
Location: Park and assemble at the top end of Rusden Street Garran. Task, tool distribution, and safety briefings will be held at 9am. A short walk to the work site. The working bee to end by no later than12 noon but may be curtailed in wet weather.
Conditions: Grassy hill slope with some rocky areas.
You bring: Water to drink, hat, leather gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea.
We bring: Tools – We will bring mattocks, loppers, secateurs and saws. Herbicide dabbers will be available and for refill if yours is empty. We will also bring a basic first aid kit and provide tool use and weeding ID and advice as needed. Bring your own tools, if available.

Cancellation: The activity will be cancelled by email (if possible), no later than 8 am on the activity day, if rain/wind is forecast which could make planned work potentially hazardous, high temperatures before midday are forecast, total fire bans are announced, air pollution is ‘hazardous’ or other official restrictions in force.
