Over the last month, we have successfully cleared the extensive weeds from the Gowrie Drive/ Stonehaven Cres green patch, leaving CPS to chainsaw the larger Cootamundra wattles, which have now been completed. This Sunday we plan to move on to weed removal in the bushland area above the Deakin suburb cut off drain from Gowrie Drive west to Kent Street. The Cootamundra wattle are in flower and easy to spot in the bushland. We have invited Emma Davidson, MLA, ACT Greens member for Murrumbidgee, Minister for Community Services, Seniors and Veterans, Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Corrections and Justice Health, Minister for Population Health to attend our morning tea.

Location: Park and assemble at the top end of Strickland Crescent just below the cut-off drain. Task and safety briefings will be held at 9am sharp. Morning tea at 11am. Work usually wraps up at about 12.30pm.
Activities: Cut/dab with focus on small blackberry patches, briar rose and mature deciduous woody weeds including Cootamundra wattle, pyracantha and cotoneaster. Large blackberry patches will be mapped for spring spraying.
Conditions: Thick bush and some very steep slopes.
You bring: Water to drink, hat, leather gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea.
We bring: Tools – We will bring secateurs, loppers, saws, some small mattocks and herbicide dabbers (bring your empty dabbers to exchange for full ones). We will also bring a basic first aid kit, and provide tool use and weeding ID and advice as needed. Bring your own tools, if available.
Note: It is important that you attend the activity safety briefing at 0900 to obtain tools, directions and to sign in and out. A byo morning tea is usually held at 11am, with an opportunity to discuss matters of relevance to the Group. Such discussions constitute ‘General Meetings’ as defined by the Rules of our organisation and may be minuted. Work will normally finish at 12.30pm
