Red Hill working bee Sunday 4 June 2017

The Red Hill Regenerators invite you to our next working bee which will be held on Sunday 4 June 2017 at 9am

We have now finished our work removing deciduous woody weeds until they start growing again next spring.

This month we plan to remove a patch of Cootamundra Wattle regrowth and use the cuttings to protect our tube stock plantings (on Sunday 18 June) from being damaged by kangaroos.

The details:

Time: Sunday 4 June 2017 Work: 0900 to 1200, with byo morning tea at 1100.

More information: info@redhillregenerators.org.au. Prior registration is not required.

Location: Meet at the first gate on the right about 50m after turning into the golf course road from Red Hill Drive.

Activities:

1. Cut and daub Cootamundra wattle, and any other woody weeds;
2. Drag Cootamundra cuttings to the adjacent maintenance track, cut into convenient lengths and stack neatly for collection by Parks & Conservation.
 3. Locate and record rabbit warrens and weeds using Collector App (bring your smart phone if you want to learn how to do this).
Conditions:  Gently sloping open woodland. Lots of spider webs at face height from leaf curling and jewel spiders. Watch out for European wasp nests. Cootamundra saplings range from small to large and will require energetic sawing.

You bring: Water, hat, long sleeved shirt, long pants, sunscreen cream, solid shoes, eye protection, byo morning tea. We may run out of saws so bring one along if you have one.

We bring: Gloves, tools, herbicides. Safety briefing and instructions at 9.15am. In the event of an equipment shortage, priority for tools will be given to Red Hill Regenerators members.

Note: Children under 16 years must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult. Work parties will be cancelled by email (if possible) if: a) the forecast is for > 35 deg C, b) it is a total fire ban day, c) there is lightning, or d) there is heavy rain.
