Red Hill working bee Sunday 5 March 2017

Austracantha Minas Jewel Spider 300x201
Jewel spider (Austracantha Minax)

The Red Hill Regenerators invite you to our working bee which will be held on Sunday 5 March 2017

Starting time this month will be the earlier time of 8am, to avoid the hottest time of the day.

This month we will continue to work on the ‘shadier’ west side of the hill at the same location as our December and January working bees. There is still a good supply of woody weeds, some thistles and verbascum to work on.

The details:

Time: Sunday 5 March 2017 Work: 0800 to 1100, with byo morning tea at 1000.

More information: info@redhillregenerators.org.au. Prior registration is not required.

Location: Meet just inside the Reserve fence. Park at the top of Bonwick Place, Garran (off Curlews Street) and walk to the maintenance track and then walk about 50m south. We will work both north and south from there up to the ridge.

Activities:

1. Cut and daub woody weeds;
2. Behead and daub thistles and verbascum
 3. Locate and record rabbit warrens and weeds using Collector App.
Conditions:  Steepish sloping woodland with dense spiky thickets in places. Lots of spider webs at face height from leaf curling and jewel spiders. Watch out for European wasp nests.

You bring: Water, hat, long sleeved shirt, long pants, sunburn cream, solid shoes, eye protection, byo morning tea.

We bring: Gloves, tools, herbicides. Safety briefing and instructions at 8.15am. In the event of an equipment shortage, priority for tools will be given to Red Hill Regenerators members.

Note: Children under 16 years must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult. Work parties will be cancelled by email (if possible) if: a) the forecast is for 35 deg C+, b) it is a total fire ban day, c) there is lightning, or d) there is heavy rain.
