Sunday 1 February we will welcome the new year by working on Red Hill’s western slope above the Federal Golf Course. This area used to be characterised by large Blackberry clumps, which we have largely got under control. However on this slope there are probably several hundred new Blackberry stems shooting up. They are still manageable with secateurs and dabbers, and it would be good to clean them up before they get much bigger. The work area should be shaded. Secateurs will be provided but if you are happy to bring your own secateurs please do. Apart from the mass of St John’s wort this slope is looking pretty good with lots of native flowers out. It is also a good spot for native birds.
We will meet at the top of the slope along the summit road, in the gravel car park adjacent to the water tanks which are located opposite the lookout. Look out for the sign. Join us anytime from 9.00am onwards till about 12.30, with byo morning tea at 11am. The slope is steep and rocky and blackberries are very spikey, so wear long pants, enclosed shoes, sleeved shirt, hat and bring water. Tools, gloves, herbicide and training will be provided.
All are welcome!
