Red Hill tree planting Sunday 1 May 2022, 9am to 12.30pm

For our May Day activity on Red Hill, you are invited to help plant 50 bursaria to complete our 2021 planting project, which was started last spring.  The planting site is located on the ridge above Garran, close to a water cube, with vehicle access via the gate into the reserve at Rusden Street. If we finish early, there will be plenty of verbascum waiting to be chipped out.

More information: info@redhillregenerators.org.au

Location: Park and assemble at the top of Rusden Street, Garram.  The gate will be unlocked at 9am for those wishing to drive up the hill.  It will be relocked until 12.30pm. There will be a briefing at the planting site at 9.15am. To access the site on foot from the Mugga Way side you should follow the Gandalf Track to the ridge.

Activities: We will dig holes for the plants, place tree guards and water them in.  If time (and energy) permit, we will chip verbascum and a large patch of Scotch thistles in this area.

Conditions: flat open ground with some patches of Saffron thistles

You bring: Water to drink, hat, leather gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea.  Please also bring two buckets for watering and your own mattock if you have one. Small hand mattocks will not be suitable for digging planting holes.

We bring:  Mattocks, some buckets, plants, stakes and guards, basic first aid kit, and instructions.

NoteIt is important that you arrive at the gate before 9am if you require vehicle access, and attend the activity briefing at 0915 at the planting site.    A byo morning tea is usually held at 11am, with an opportunity to discuss matters of relevance to the Group. Such discussions constitute ‘General Meetings’ as defined by the Rules of our organisation and may be minuted.
