The aim of this activity will be to remove a persistent patch of Verbascum on a ridge in the southern part of the Reserve. If the mature plants are removed now millions of seeds will not be spread over the surrounding slopes. Removal of the rosettes will mean that these plants will not flower and set seed next Spring and Summer. Controlling this Verbascum outbreak will contribute to our very successful efforts to improve the quality of the woodland in this part of the Reserve.
Many of the Verbascum have flower spikes and can be controlled by cutting and dabbing the spike. The rosettes can be controlled by chipping with a mattock. There are also some woody weeds in the area that can be controlled by cutting and dabbing.
