Red Hill work activity Sunday 6 February 2022

Since our previous working bee, you might have noticed that most of the verbascum are no longer showing any flowers and some are starting to brown off.  This is a sign that the flower heads are now setting seed while the plant dies off.  Our next work activity on Sunday 6 February 2022 will be probably be our last chance for beheading/dabbing verbascum before the seed heads get too advanced.  There will however be plenty of work chipping and spraying the young rosettes and cut/dab other woody weeds eg Briar Rose etc.  We plan again to work at the Tamar Street end of the Reserve from 9am to about midday.

More information: info@redhillregenerators.org.au

Location: Park and assemble at the very southern end of Mugga Way, below Tamar Street. There will be a briefing at 9am.

Activities: We plan to chip patches of young verbascum located on the hillside above Tamar Street and cut dab flower spikes still in flower.  There will also be secateurs and loppers available.

Conditions: gentle to steep slopes, rocky in parts, some open bush. Dense patches of verbascum and plenty of spiky Saffron Thistle.

You bring: Water to drink, hat, gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea. It is essential that you bring gloves, hand sanitiser, your own pen for signing the book (and your own tools if possible) and your smart phone to register via the Park Care QR code. (See Covid 19 Advice, including mask wearing requirements below)

We bring:   Some hand sanitiser, disinfected tools, and instructions. (See Covid 19 Advice below)
