Red Hill working bee Sunday 3 September 2017

The Red Hill Regenerators invite you to our next working bee which will be held on Sunday 3 September 2017 at 9am

As a special Father’s Day dispensation, we have decided not to cut down more Cootamundra Wattles. Instead we are planning to do some preparatory work on the heritage red flowering Callistemons before the event in October to commemorate the centenary of their being planted by Charles Weston, at the direction of Walter Burley Griffin in 1917. The details:

Time: Sunday 3 September 2017 Work: 0900 to 1230, with byo morning tea at 1100.

Location: Park in the Red Hill summit restaurant car park, and proceed about 50m downhill towards Mugga Way, to the Callistemon plantation.

Activities:

1. Cut and daub woody weeds and natives which are growing in and around the Callistemons;
2. Tidy the plantation by dragging any cut debris from within the plantation.
 3. Locate and record active rabbit warrens  using Collector App (bring your smart phone if you want to learn how to do this).
Conditions:  The Callistemons are growing on a steep and rocky slope, and are quite spikey.

You bring: Water, hat, long sleeved shirt, long pants, sunscreen cream, solid shoes, eye protection, byo morning tea. We may run out of saws so bring one along if you have one.

We bring: Gloves, tools, herbicides. Safety briefing and instructions at 9.15am. In the event of an equipment shortage, priority for tools will be given to Red Hill Regenerators members.

Note: Parks & Conservation rules require children under 15 years to be supervised by a responsible adult. Work party will be cancelled by email (if possible) if: a) the forecast is for > 35 deg C, b) it is a total fire ban day, c) there is lightning, or d) there is heavy rain.

Other unscheduled activities this year will include our popular wildflower walk led by Dr Michael Mulvaney, and a celebration of the centenary of planting the red flowering callistemon plants upon instructions from Walter Burley Griffin.
