The weather was absolutely stunning when our (delayed) June working bee was held last Sunday. Despite it being a long weekend, we were delighted that 18 happy volunteers arrived ready to help. Our numbers were significantly boosted by a contingent from Mt Mugga Scouts, who put in a great effort swinging their mattocks at the never ending verbascum plants. Our thanks to those scouts!
Based at the Mugga Way car park, in addition to the verbascum, we also focussed on the usual woody weeds, including privet, contoneasta, briar rose, pyracantha and cootamundra wattle, while overhead soared a Little Eagle being harassed by half a dozen magpies. There is only one pair of nesting Little Eagles in the ACT, so it is a real treat to see one! (You can see a photo of this magnificent bird on our website).
During our morning tea we discussed the recently published proposal to develop housing on part of the Federal Golf Course. Those interested in the possible impact on Red Hill Reserve from this development are urged to read the proposal (which can be found at https://redhillregenerators.org.au/?cat=7), and send in your comments via our website. We are advised that the Golf Club members will be asked on 20 June 2016 to vote whether to accept the proposal.
Thanks to everyone who came along to our very productive working bee. We look forward to seeing everyone at our July working bee which will be held, weather permitting, on Sunday 3 July.
