Red Hill activity Sunday 5June 2022: deferred to Sunday 12 June 2022

Welcome to winter! Assuming we don’t need to wade through snowdrifts on Red Hill, our next activity will be on Sunday 5 June 2022 from 9am until 12.30pm.  We will continue to work east and north through the high value parts of the Reserve above Deakin between Strickland Crescent and Red Hill Drive (aka Gowrie Drive).

More information: info@redhillregenerators.org.au

Location: Park and assemble at the top of Strickland Crescent, Deakin. There will be an information and safety briefing at 9am.

Activities: We plan to work up the slope south towards the ridge, and inspect the area north towards Red Hill Drive. Focus on cut/dab woody weeds – cotoneasta, pyracanthus, briar rose, and also any small patches of blackberry and possibly verbascum, ivy. I am reliably advised that verbascum have been sighted and will need to be chipped out.

Conditions: steep slopes, rocky in parts, some open bush.

You bring: Water to drink, hat, leather gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants essential, eye protection, sunscreen, solid enclosed shoes. BYO morning tea.

We bring:  Tools – secateurs, loppers, saws, some mattocks , herbicide dabbers, basic first aid kit, and instructions.

NoteIt is important that you attend the activity safety briefing at 0900.    A byo morning tea is usually held at 11am, with an opportunity to discuss matters of relevance to the Group. Such discussions constitute ‘General Meetings’ as defined by the Rules of our organisation and may be minuted.

Cancellation: The activity will be cancelled by email (if possible) if rain/wind is forecast which could make planned work potentially hazardous, high temperatures before midday are forecast, total fire bans are announced, air pollution is ‘hazardous’ or additional Covid 19 restrictions in force.
