The critically endangered woodland in the Red Hill Nature Reserve needs your help. Over the last few years, as a result of thousands of hours of volunteer effort and the use of Environmental Grant funding, the weed load in the Reserve has been greatly reduced. In order to continue to improve the quality of woodland we need to ensure that infestations of weeds do not recur.
An outbreak of Verbascum, Saffron Thistles and Scotch Thistles is occurring in the southern part of the Reserve. It is important that these weeds be controlled now so that they do not spread and become a major problem. The main task will involve chipping the Verbascum and thistles. There are also some woody weeds in the area that can be controlled by cutting and dabbing.
